Accessories CELL PHONES Use of cell phones and other devices by driver: WARNING: Use of any electrical devices such as cell phones, computers, portable radios, vehicle navigation or other devices by the driver while the vehicle is moving is dangerous. Dialing a number on a cell phone while driving also ties-up the driver’s hands. Use of these devices will cause the driver to be distracted and could lead to a serious accident. If a passenger is unable to use the device, pull off the right-of-way to a safe area before use. If use of a cell phone is necessary despite this warning, use a hands-free system to at least allow the hands free to drive the vehicle. Never use a cell phone or other electrical device while the vehicle is moving and, instead, concentrate on the full-time job of driving. In addition, the gasoline distributors are warning against using cell phones during refueling procedures, due to their increased concern about static electricity fires in the self-service pump environment. 318 Index A ABS (see Brakes) .194 Accessory delay 58 Air cleaner filter .311, 313 Air conditioning manual heating and air conditioning system .36 Airbag supplemental restraint system 115116, 125, 128 and child safety seats 117 description 116, 125, 128 disposal 131 driver airbag 118, 126, 129 indicator light .124, 127, 130 operation .118, 126, 129 passenger airbag .118, 126, 129 side airbag .125 All Wheel Drive (AWD), driving off road .211 Ambulance packages 7 AM/FM .19 Antifreeze (see Engine coolant) 287 Anti-lock brake system (see Brakes) 194195 Anti-theft system 85 Audio system (see Radio) .19 Automatic transmission 205 driving an automatic overdrive .205 fluid, refill capacities 313 fluid, specification 313 Auxiliary input jack (Line in) 27 Auxiliary power point .56 Axle lubricant specifications 313 refill capacities 313 B Battery .285 acid, treating emergencies .285 jumping a disabled battery 241 maintenance-free 285 servicing 285 Belt-Minder .111 Booster seats .145 Brakes 194 anti-lock .194195 anti-lock brake system (ABS) warning light .195 fluid, checking and adding 307 fluid, refill capacities 313 fluid, specifications .313 lubricant specifications 313 parking 195 shift interlock 203 Bulbs 46 C Capacities for refilling fluids 313 Car2U Home Automation System .66 Cargo area shade 73 CD 19 Cell phone warning .318 Child safety seats 136 attaching with tether straps 143 in front seat 137 in rear seat 137 LATCH .140 recommendations .134 Child safety seats – booster seats .145 319 Index Cleaning your vehicle engine compartment 264 instrument panel 266 interior .267 Mazda car care products .268 plastic parts 265 washing 263 waxing .263 wheels 264 wiper blades 266 Climate control (see Air conditioning or Heating) 36 Clock 19 Clutch fluid 307 operation while driving 207 recommended shift speeds 208 Console 55 overhead 55 Controls power seat .93 steering column 63 Coolant checking and adding 287 refill capacities 291, 313 specifications 313 Cruise control .60 Cruise control (see Speed control) 60 Customer Assistance 249, 253, 256 D Daytime running lamps (see Lamps) 42 Dipstick automatic transmission fluid 307 320 engine oil .281 Driving under special conditions 207, 213, 216 sand .214 snow and ice .217 through water .215, 219 E Electronic stability control 196 Emergencies, roadside jump-starting 241 running out of fuel .241, 299 Emergency Flashers .220 Emission control system 304 Engine 315 cleaning .264 coolant .287 fail-safe cooling .292 idle speed control .285 lubrication specifications .313 refill capacities 313 service points 277278 starting after a collision .220 Engine block heater .192 Engine oil 281 checking and adding 281 dipstick 281 filter, specifications 284 recommendations .284 refill capacities 313 specifications 313 Event data recording 7 Exhaust fumes 191 F Fail safe cooling 292 Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) 293 Index Fluid capacities .313 Fog lamps 41 Four-Wheel Drive vehicles driving off road .212 preparing to drive your vehicle .202 Fuel 293 calculating fuel economy .301 cap .296 capacity .313 choosing the right fuel .297 comparisons with EPA fuel economy estimates .304 detergent in fuel .299 filler funnel .299 filling your vehicle with fuel .293, 296, 301 filter, specifications 293 fuel pump shut-off switch .220 improving fuel economy 301 octane rating .298, 315 quality 299 running out of fuel .241, 299 safety information relating to automotive fuels 293 Fuel – flex fuel vehicle (FFV) .293, 297298 Fuses 221222 G Garage door opener 66 Gas cap (see Fuel cap) 296 Gas mileage (see Fuel economy) .301 Gauges .16 H Hazard flashers .220 Headlamps .40 aiming 43 bulb specifications 46 daytime running lights.
